Of course, this species, humanity, had a penchant for advancement, and it did advance, bringing light into their homes with electricity. Then it innovated on its own innovation, creating LED bulbs. Then it decided it wanted to be safe, so now they get their fixtures from an

UL certification means that a fixture has been inspected. UL stands for Underwriters Laboratories, an independent organization. Their mission is to test the safety of lights before they can be installed.
LED means light emitting diode. This a new way to harness light. In recent years, it has found popularity, particularly among those who are a little more conscious of their impact on the environment.
There are several benefits to switching to LED over traditional sources like fluorescent or incandescent sources. For one, they last much longer. A fluorescent bulb will burn out before an LED bulb even begins to fade. For another, they have much better electrical efficiency, which means they consume less electricity. Some consumers may not see this as a benefit, but an LED bulb only emits light in a 180 degree angle at most, which means that its beam can be better focused in a single direction as opposed to lighting up a whole room, which makes it perfect for reading lamps.
