These novels feature heroes and heroines tasked with rescuing or protecting humanity.
Scott Orson is the famed author behind Enders Game. This title was released in 1985 when very little was known to the masses about life beyond our planet. Childhood Ends could have been inspired by the fact that there were numerous blimps that floated over London during WWII. It is a narrative of friendly invaders who help to end all wars in the world. This creates a utopia world ruled by a single government. The mysterious Overlords governed the earth from a space craft. The problem arises when they refuse to disclose more information about their origin.
The War of Worlds is considered a forerunner to all other novels written in this category. It was in fact sometimes classified as scientific romance. The author finds it fun to obliterate his neighborhood and in fact succeeds. He describes the killing to a friend as eccentric and painful. The book came out in 1898 and continues to baffle readers especially in the way an entire neighborhood is destroyed.
